CUYAHOGA FALLS
Mayor: Utility bills fixed
CUYAHOGA FALLS: City electric customers should be back to relatively normal bills as the 10th billing of the year goes out this week, Mayor Don Walters told City Council this week.
A new software system caused a serious headache for officials and residents throughout the summer. Not only were typical bills higher than usual due to increased usage related to the hottest summer on record, but a software glitch caused some of the 23,000 customers not to receive bills in a timely manner.
The result was the sudden appearance of later bills with dramatic increases, in some cases hundreds of dollars more than expected.
Walters said the utility department has reported that the phone calls coming in now are for more routine issues ,and it appears the more serious problems have been sorted out.
“We’re back in sync where we should be,” he told the council.

Shreve man dies in crash
PLAIN TWP.: A Shreve man was killed Wednesday morning in a two-vehicle accident on U.S. Route 250 at Jefferson Road.
James H. Swires, 54, was traveling northbound on Jefferson in a 1997 Ford F-250, passed a horse-drawn buggy and failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection at 6:45 a.m., the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.
His pickup was struck by a 2005 Ford Ranger XLT that was eastbound on Route 250 and driven by Charles J. Blevins, 61, of Wooster.
Swires’ vehicle overturned as it was struck and came to rest on the passenger’s side on the north side of Route 250. He was not wearing a seat belt and suffered fatal injuries.
Blevins was wearing his safety belt and suffered incapacitating injuries, the patrol said. He was transported to Wooster Community Hospital.
The westbound lanes of Route 250 were closed for about two hours while the scene was cleared.
Alcohol is not suspected in the crash. The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and the New Pittsburg Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene.
