Trick-or-treat with animals at Boo at the Zoo

Boo at the Akron Zoo kicks off today, running 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, through Oct. 30. The non-scary event offers trick-or-treating and Halloween decorations and displays. Advance tickets are $11 for trick-or-treaters, free for member observers and $8 for nonmember observers. Day of event tickets are $12 for trick-or-treaters, $2 for member observers and $9 for nonmember observers. The zoo is at 500 Edgewood Ave. 330-375-2550 or www.akronzoo.org.

See an out-of-this-world concert at E.J. Thomas

Tuesday Musical and the Akron Symphony have joined forces to present Saturday’s 8 p.m. concert featuring Holst’s popular The Planets, and the adventurous So Percussion on a piece called man made. It’s at E.J. Thomas Hall, 198 S. Hill St., University of Akron. Tickets are $20-$55 at 330-535-8131 or www.akronsymphony.org.

Farmers market season is winding down. Get your fresh produce while you still can at the Countryside Farmers Market at Howe Meadow in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Observe National Fossil Day archaeologist style

It’s National Fossil Day, and you can go on a fossil-hunting expedition that begins at 9:30 a.m. at the Everett Covered Bridge, 2370 Everett Road, Peninsula. If you miss it, you can stop in from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Hunt House, 2054 Bolanz Road, Peninsula, to learn more about fossils. 330-657-2752.
