Summit County Common Pleas Court Judge Tom Teodosio was presented with the Robert Denton Chaplain’s Award for service to first responders at the third annual Scotch, Bourbon and Wine Tasting fundraiser on Friday evening at Our Lady of Cedars in Fairlawn.
“We come to this every year,” said Martha Sullivan, who attended with her husband, Hugh Sullivan.
Proceeds from the evening will benefit the Safety Forces Chaplaincy Center of Akron. Honorary co-chairs were Summit County Sheriff Steve Barry and Chief Jeff Funai of the Green Fire Department.
Serving on this year’s committee were Mike Hausch, Rita Chambers, Todd Chambers, Sylvia Trundle, Bill Fairweather and Marian Denton.
About 180 people attended the event. Spotted in the crowd were Maryann Montana, Peter Stanonis, John and Susanne Callahan, Gary and Cathy Walter, Kathy Barry, Dan Raubenolt, Carol Vuillemin, Kim and Tom Pozza and Lance and Mary Kimmell.
“This organization has done a tremendous job of supporting firefighters, police and their families in our community,” Lance Kimmell said.
Amy Raubenolt said, “We have had a lot of suicides in our public safety forces here and around the country with the stress that comes with the job, so this will provide much needed help in that area.”
Dan Mosher attended to support the many programs offered by the group. Drew Alexander and Executive Director Bob Denton welcomed the crowd.
“In my experience, anything that is in the best interest of our safety officials is in the best interest of the community,” Larry Vuillemin said.
