Colt, an 8-year-old German Shepherd who started with the department in 2010, died after being diagnosed with Leukemia.

“Colt was very special to our residents,” City Councilman Matt Riehl said.

During the last recession, when the city couldn’t find the money to replace a retiring K-9, a small group formed the K-9 Donation Fund, collecting small and large donations from residents, businesses and students.
