Buckingham Palace needs work

Buckingham Palace needs a taxpayer-funded face-lift. Queen Elizabeth II’s home in London requires urgent infrastructure work to fix plumbing, electrical cables and heating that hasn’t been upgraded since World War II. The work will cost some $459 million over 10 years.

High lead levels in schools

Cleveland’s school district will replace hundreds of drinking fountains, restroom faucets, outdoor spigots and other water fixtures after tests found high lead levels in the water at 60 of its buildings.

Iconic items sold at auction

An angry letter from John Lennon to Paul and Linda McCartney written shortly after the Beatles’ breakup was sold at an auction in Boston for nearly $30,000. Meanwhile, a dress worn by Marilyn Monroe as she famously sang Happy Birthday to President John. F. Kennedy sold for nearly $5 million in Los Angeles.

Oil pipeline won’t be rerouted

The CEO of the company building the Dakota Access oil pipeline said the company has no alternative than to stick to its plan but he’d like to meet with an American Indian tribe to try to ease the tribe’s concerns.
