Portage County authorities searched Wednesday for the suspect in a fatal shooting on Henderson Road in Ravenna Township.
Ravenna police and EMS responded to the reported shooting around 2:23 p.m. By the time they arrived, the suspect had fled the area.
A 33-year-old man was killed and a 32-year-old woman was wounded in the shooting.
Police identified the suspect as David Darnell Calhoun Jr., 25, who is currently on parole. Authorities advised nearby residents to stay inside and lock their doors and said the suspect should be considered armed and dangerous.
Because of the site’s proximity to Ravenna High School, the school was placed on immediate lockdown for 30 minutes — after some students already had been dismissed for the day. When the lockdown was lifted around 3 p.m., law enforcement officers escorted students to their vehicles. No students were reported harmed.
The Portage County Sheriff’s office, which is handling the investigation into the shooting, declined to comment to the Beacon Journal late Wednesday and said more information would be made available Thursday.
