Romance of ‘Once’ at E.J.

The musical Once lands at E.J. Thomas Hall for performances at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, part of the Broadway in Akron series. Based on the award-winning indie film, it follows the music-assisted romance of an Irish musician and a Czech immigrant, and all the actors play their own instruments. Special showing of ‘Nerdland’

The animated film Nerdland gets its premiere at a special showing at 8 p.m. at theaters including Cinemark at Portage Crossing, Cuyahoga Falls; Valley View 24; Hudson Cinema 10; and Montrose Movies 12, Akron. Along with the film, which is billed as “funny, ridiculous and at some points vulgar,” there will be a panel discussion with stars Patton Oswalt, Brendon Small, Kate Miccuci and John Ennis, director Chris Prynoski and writer/producer Andrew Kevin Walker, moderated by stand-up comedian Blaine Capatch. www.fathomevents.com.

Historian does book signing

Local historian Dave Lieberth signs Greater Akron: Inventive, Industrious, Inspired in the Perkins Stone Mansion from 1 to 7 p.m. as part of Summit County Historical Society’s holiday tour.
