Things to Do, Dec. 7: ‘Grinch’ on stage; taste sparkling wines; learn about self-publishing; classical guitar concert

Taste sparkling wines

Sparkling wine shouldn’t be just for New Year’s Eve; it goes well with all kinds of food, and there’s nothing like a cold glass of prosecco to start your evening. Learn more about bubbly as Regency wine store and bar in Fairlawn hosts its Champagne tasting from 6 to 9 p.m. Cost is $50, plus tax and tip. Appetizers are included. A tasting of high-end reds will be available at the same time for an additional charge. www.regencywinesellers.com.

‘Grinch’ at Playhouse Square

A live musical production of Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas runs through Sunday at the Connor Palace in Cleveland’s Playhouse Square. Max the dog narrates the tale, which includes favorite songs like You’re A Mean One Mr. Grinch as well as new tunes. Tickets are $10-$80 at www.playhousesquare.org.

Learn about self-publishing

It used to be called “vanity press” and carried connotations of poor writing. Now, self-publishing is a big industry that gives more writers a chance to have their voices heard. Four local authors will speak on “Navigating the Changing World of Self-Publishing” at 7 p.m. at the Hudson Library & Historical Society, 96 Library St. Eric Van Raepenbusch, Matthew Verish, Stephanie Verish, and Elizabeth Yurich will share their experiences as independently published authors, in a panel moderated by Amanda Flower. To register, call 330-653-6658, ext. 1010, or go to www.hudsonlibrary.org.

Free guitar performance at UA

The University of Akron’s Classical Guitar Ensembles give a free performance at 7:30 p.m. at Guzzetta Recital Hall, 157 University Ave. 330-972-8301.
