Man is killed after incident

Authorities say a call reporting a domestic dispute at Sumter Mall resulted in the fatal shooting of a man in an exchange of gunfire with police. Police responded to a call Saturday evening reporting a woman was afraid to leave the mall because an estranged boyfriend was seen outside pointing a gun at her vehicle, police spokeswoman Tonyia McGirt says. A police statement identified the man as 35-year-old Waltki Cermoun Williams of Sumter, adding he drove off at high speed in an SUV with police pursuing. The statement says Williams crashed into two vehicles and fled on foot. It added a brief struggle ensued between Williams and police, followed by gunfire. The number of officers involved wasn’t disclosed.

Stabbing occurs near mosque

A man has been arrested on suspicion of committing a hate crime after police say he stabbed a worshipper near a mosque. Police said reports of people fighting sent them to a shopping center parking lot near the mosque around 11:15 p.m. Saturday. Officers separated the combatants and found that one person had been stabbed. The fight began after a man confronted a worshipper and got into a verbal dispute, police said. John Matteson, 29, was arrested nearby, police said. The victim had non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital in stable condition, police said.

Small quakes shake up state

Several small earthquakes have been recorded during the weekend across Oklahoma, the largest being a magnitude 3.7 temblor near Waukomis. No damage or injuries are reported. The quake near Waukomis, about 60 miles northwest of Oklahoma City, was recorded early Saturday by the U.S. Geological Survey. Magnitude 3.3 earthquakes were recorded Sunday morning near Perry, about 55 miles north of Oklahoma City, and on Saturday near Mooreland. Three quakes ranging from magnitude 2.5 to 2.9 were recorded near McLoud, Okarche and Perry. Oklahoma’s earthquakes have been linked the underground disposal of wastewater from oil and gas production.

‘Moana’ is still No. 1 in sales

Disney’s Moana has continued to sit pretty atop the box office for its third straight weekend. Moana was in first with $18.8 million, followed by the Jennifer Aniston comedy Office Christmas Party, which debuted to $17.5 million.
