BEACON JOURNAL

Call center holiday hours

AKRON: The Beacon Journal Customer Service Call Center will be taking calls from 7 to 10 a.m. Sunday and Monday. The phone number is 330-996-3600 or 800-777-2442.

Regular business hours of 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. will resume Tuesday.

The Public Service Counter inside the Beacon Journal, at 44 E. Exchange St., Akron, will be closed Monday. Regular business hours of 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. will resume Tuesday.

GREEN

Meeting to discuss pipeline

GREEN: A meeting to update area residents on the Nexus pipeline project, its current status and what is planned for the future, will be held at Green’s Central Administration Building, 1775 Town Park Blvd., at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The meeting is being hosted by Green Mayor Gerard Neugebauer, the Summit County Council and Summit Executive Ilene Shapiro.

Green officials will speak along with Paul Gierosky, the representative for the Coalition to Re-Route Nexus [CoRN], and the group’s attorney, Green resident David Mucklow.

The speakers will answer questions and share the most current information on the proposed pipeline’s status and discuss the planned next steps.

Holiday pay for police

LAKE TWP.: Trustees approved paying part-time Uniontown police officers $30 per hour to work on six holidays throughout the year at a special meeting Thursday afternoon.

Due to the Christmas holiday, trustees will hold their next meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Their 2017 organizational meeting is set for 8 a.m. Thursday.

Cleveland officer identified

CLEVELAND: Police on Saturday identified the veteran Cleveland officer whose 2-year-old son died after apparently shooting himself with his father’s service weapon.

A Cleveland police statement said the investigation was in its early stages and that there had been no arrests made. The officer was identified as Jose Pedro, 54, hired in 1993.

Officers responded to a home in the city around 10:30 a.m. Friday. Police said the child was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injury.

Police didn’t release any other details immediately.

SUMMIT COUNTY

Beekeeping classes

TALLMADGE: The Summit County Beekeepers Association will offer Beginners Beekeeping classes from 7-9 p.m. every Wednesday starting Jan. 11 and ending Feb. 8.

The classes will be held in the Virginia O’Casek Hall building at the Summit County Fairgrounds, 229 E. Howe Road in Tallmadge.

The classes will cover honeybee biology, equipment, diseases, hive management, harvesting and more. The cost is $85 per person or $125 per family.

The Summit County Beekeepers Association is a nonprofit association that promotes beekeeping and fosters best practices. For more information, visit http://www.summitbeekeepers.com.
