AKRON

Trafficking expert to speak

AKRON: Jan Apisa, director of community engagement for the Victim Assistance program, will speak at the Kiwanis Club of Akron’s monthly luncheon at noon Thursday at the Duck Club at Canal Park, 300 S. Main St.

Apisa joined Victim Assistance as a human trafficking public education specialist. She has been an active member of the Summit County Collaborative Against Human Trafficking and is co-chair of that group’s executive committee.

Ward 6 meeting change

AKRON: Ward 6 community meetings with Akron Councilman Bob Hoch have moved to the second Thursday of each month.

The next meeting on Jan. 12 begins at 6 p.m. at the Robert J. Otterman Ellet Community Center, 2449 Wedgewood Drive.

Judge ceremony

AKRON: Katarina Cook will be sworn in as a Summit County Domestic Relations Court judge Thursday in the third-floor atrium of the court, 205 S. High St.

Cook, who had been on the Akron Municipal Court bench, won her new seat in the Nov. 8 election. She will replace Judge Carol Dezso, who is retiring, and will be the first Republican to serve in Summit County’s domestic court.

A welcome reception will be at 4:30 p.m., followed by the program at 5:10 p.m.
