AKRON

Woman reports robbery

AKRON: A Brunswick woman told police she was robbed on Tuesday by a man who had agreed over the internet to meet in Akron to sell her a cellphone.

Police reported the woman met the man in the 1900 block of Newton Street. The man came out of some apartments there, got into the passenger seat of her car and pointed a handgun at her. He demanded her belongings, and the woman handed over her cellphone, a debit card and $400 in cash.

The man then exited the vehicle and went back toward the apartment building. The woman drove to a nearby store and called police.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 330-375-2490.

City caps old waterline

AKRON: The city has capped and abandoned an old waterline that broke at the end of the exit ramp of Interstate 76/77 westbound to South Broadway.

The city had to redirect traffic to a stop sign while the work was taking place this week, resulting in backups on the highway.

The 8-inch waterline dated to 1890. That section was no longer needed and it didn’t make sense to repair it, so the line was capped and abandoned, the city said.
