‘Carousel’ movie on 60th anniversary ride

Rodgers and Hammerstein’s musicals are often wrongly dismissed as sugary-sweet. Take Carousel. The show has serious shades of dark, including crime, death and domestic violence, amid the brightness of its indelible tunes. The film features Gordon McRae and musical star and Partridge Family matriarch Shirley Jones. The movie’s 60th anniversary is being celebrated with theatrical showings at 2 and 7 p.m. at Cinemark at Portage Crossing, Cuyahoga Falls; Cinemark 15, Macedonia; Valley View 24; Montrose 12, Akron; and Movies 10, Wooster. www.fathomevents.com.

Melissa Etheridge brings hits from her more than 30-year career to the Hard Rock Rocksino Northfield Park at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $42.50-$75 at 800-745-3000, www.ticketmaster.com.
