JACKSON TWP.: Stark State College unveiled a new logo Tuesday — the first time the image has been updated in 57 years.
The logo keeps the school’s traditional red and blue colors and features interlocking shapes. It is “a contemporary image intended to resonate with prospective students, now and into the future,” the school said.
The old image was more like a seal and, in fact, the former design will serve as the school seal moving forward.
The school started the process of creating a new logo more than a year ago. The winning design — developed by Stark State graphic designer Beth Klein — was selected based on surveys and focus groups made up of prospective and current students, as well as faculty and staff.
School officials noted that the new design is also more “wearable” — as in it will soon show up on clothing at the college bookstore.
Stark State, which offers two-year associate degrees and certification programs, has more than 12,000 students. The school is building a new satellite campus in Akron on 11 acres of vacant, city-owned property along Perkins Street near state Route 8 just northeast of downtown.
