The warm weather for Akron continues in the midst of winter’s typically cruelest month.

It was a record-setting — or at least tying in some spots — day across Northeast Ohio on Tuesday.

The record high in Akron was tied Tuesday afternoon at the Akron-Canton Airport when the temperature reached 59 degrees. This tied a record high previously set in 1952.

Cleveland Hopkins airport set a new record high when the mercury hit 61 degrees. The old record was 60 degrees set in 1973 and 1952.

This marks the second time in less than a week that Akron has set or tied a record high.

Last Thursday a new record was set when the temperature hit 63 degrees breaking a record set in 2005 when it was 61 at the airport.

The average daily January high in Akron is 34 degrees.

The National Weather Service says there is no snow in the forecast into the foreseeable future for Akron.

Temperatures will be in the mid to upper 40s through Friday.

The weather service says a rainy weekend is on tap with highs in the unseasonably warm 50s on Saturday and Sunday.
