UA Steel drum band to perform
Escape winter with a virtual trip to the Caribbean when the Akron Civic Theatre presents the University of Akron Steel Drum Band at 2:30 p.m. Sunday as part of the Akron Children’s Hospital Family Series. Professor Larry Snider founded the band in 1980 when it was one of only three college steel drum bands in the country. It is composed of more than 20 percussion majors. Winter concert in Tallmadge
The Akron Youth Orchestras will present a winter concert at 3 p.m. Sunday at Tallmadge High School, 140 N. Munroe Road. The Akron Youth Philharmonic will perform Mozart’s Symphony No. 25, Bach’s Sleepers Awake from Cantanta No. 140, Holst’s Brook Green Suite and Larry Clark’s Engines of Resistance. The Akron Youth Symphony will perform Resanovic’s Sarabande, Schubert’s Rosamunde and Berlioz’ Hungarian March from The Damnation of Faust. Tickets are $10 or free for children ages 10 or younger. Pizza Palooza served in Stow
Pizza will be the main dish at Stow-Munroe Falls High, 3227 Graham Road, from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday. A dozen pizza shops and restaurants have signed up to participate in the inaugural Pizza Palooza to benefit student programs in the school district. Locally owned places such as Altieri’s Pizza in Stow and Dontino’s in Akron’s North Hill will participate, as well as some of the chain places.
