Two men shot in unrelated incidents within hours in Akron

Akron police are investigation two unrelated shootings that happened within hours of each other late Tuesday and early Wednesday.

Shortly before midnight on Tuesday, a 20-year-old man was the victim of a shooting in the 2300 block of East Avenue. He reported he was sitting in his vehicle when a man approached the driver’s side window and fired a gun several times.

The man was hit several times with bullets, but managed to drive himself to Barberton Hospital. He was stabilized there and transported to Summa Akron City Hospital, where he’s in stable condition.

The shooter is described as a black man in his 20s, wearing a light-colored or white hooded sweatshirt and dark pants.

A second shooting occurred hours later in the 800 block of Ruth Avenue. A 22-year-old man said someone approached a house he was in and fired several shots from the outside at about 1:30 a.m. The victim was struck in the back and was treated at Cleveland Clinic Akron General for wounds that weren’t life-threatening.

No description was available for the shooter in the second incident.
