Let the confetti fly.

Or more appropriately, let the beer flow.

Hoppin’ Frog Brewery in Akron again is being honored by RateBeer.com as one of the Top 100 Brewers in the World.

The website, which provides beer drinkers a forum to review beers, released its annual list Friday.

Hoppin’ Frog, 1680 E. Waterloo Road, is one of only two Ohio breweries to make the Top 100. Jackie O’s Pub & Brewery in Athens is the other.

It’s considered a massive honor because RateBeer.com analyzed online reviews of more than 22,500 breweries around the world to come up with the top performers. The Top 100 represents 0.4 percent of all the breweries.

Hoppin’ Frog is no stranger — neither is Jackie O’s — to the RateBeer Top 100. It has been recognized as one of the world’s best-ever since opening 10 years ago.

“More than anything it’s a testament to the hard work we put in and, I guess, the consistency,” owner and brewer Fred Karm said.

“It just blows my mind,” he added. “We’ve reached a pinnacle in our existence that we’ve been able to prove that we can make consistently great beers every single year.”

With a brewery boom occurring in the United States, it’s getting more difficult to be recognized. Karm said he doesn’t take that for granted.

“I was so hoping that we’d get on the list for the 10th year,” he said.

The brewery — which produces beers such as B.O.R.I.S. the Crusher Oatmeal Imperial Stout and Turbo Shandy Citrus Ale — will celebrate the RateBeer honor with a party Feb. 25.

Jackie O’s head brewer Brad Clark also was pleased with the recognition.

“It’s a list that I always hope that I’m on and look forward to being on,” he said.

Jackie O’s also was named as the best brewpub and best brewery taproom in Ohio. Meanwhile, its Iced Coffee Apparition was chosen as the state’s best beer.

Fat Head’s Brewery, which is building a brewpub in Stark County, was on the list last year, but fell off this year.

Great Lakes Brewing Co. in Cleveland and Thirsty Dog Brewing Co. in Akron also have been on the list in past years.
