Things to Do, Feb. 7: ‘King and I’ opens in Cleveland; author signs Plusquellic book; talk on Negro Leagues; remembering old restaurants

‘King and I’ opens in Cleveland

Shall we dance? Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The King and I opens at 7:30 p.m. at Playhouse Square’s Connor Palace. The story of a leader trying to protect his country from outside influences still resonates today, says Jose Llana, who plays the titular king. Plus, there’s all that great music. The show runs through Feb. 26; tickets are $10-$110 at www.playhousesquare.org.

Diners, dives and drive-ins

Warning: Your mouth will be watering after the Massillon Museum’s History Group discussion at 10 a.m. Moderator Chris Craft will lead a conversation about diners, dives and drive-ins; the foods they served; and the owners and servers. Bring stories, photographs, menus and other memorabilia to show off. It’s in the Fred F. Silk Community Room in the Museum’s lower level. 330-833-4061 www.massillonmuseum.org.

Author to discuss, sign book

Steve Love, author of The Indomitable Don Plusquellic, gives a talk and signs his biography of the longtime Akron mayor at 6 p.m. at the Northwest Akron Branch Library, 1720 Shatto Ave. Copies will be available for purchase and signing. www.akronlibrary.org.

Negro Baseball League talk

Some of the greatest baseball players of the 20th century never got to play in the majors. Learn more about the Negro Baseball League with a talk by Leslie Heaphy, associate professor at Kent State University, who will give a history emphasizing the league’s ties to Ohio, at 7 p.m. at the Twinsburg Public Library, 10050 Ravenna Road. RSVP at 330-425-4268, ext. 2.
