International movie madness will return to Akron this year. At least for a night and a day.

The 41st Cleveland International Film Festival will announce soon that it is screening films in Akron on March 31 and April 1, during the festival’s opening weekend.

Venues will include the Akron-Summit County Public Library, the Akron Art Museum and the Nightlight Cinema.

This marks the seventh year the CIFF will screen films in Akron. Unlike previous years, however, there will be no preview reception.

“We are sad to report there will not be an Akron Preview Reception due to some key funding decisions still not decided,” said Debby Samples, the CIFF’s director of marketing and media.

In addition to its main home in Cleveland’s Tower City Cinemas, the festival has branched out to several satellite locations in recent years. Akron was one of five satellite locales last year, with seven features and three shorts programs playing here. Which films will be showing in Akron this year has yet to be decided. Check back in the Beacon Journal and on www.ohio.com for updates.

The 41st CIFF runs March 29-April 9. The full programming list of more than 400 features and shorts will be released to the public on March 3 on the CIFF’s website: www.clevelandfilm.org.
