Meetings for residents
AKRON: John Valle, Akron’s director of Neighborhood Assistance, a customer service and complaint department, will be available to meet with residents from 1 to 2 p.m. March 2 at Summit Lake Community Center, 380 W. Crosier St.; from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. March 8 at Northwest Family Recreation Center, 1730 Shatto Ave.; and from noon to 1 p.m. March 16 at Patterson Park Community Center, 800 Patterson Ave.
Mardi Gras dinner at club
AKRON: The Polish American Citizens Club will host its annual Mardi Gras dinner from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the club at 472 E. Glenwood Ave.
Dinner includes Polish sausage, sauerkraut, homemade pierogi and paczki, similar to a doughnut. The evening will include music and Polish dancing.
Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for children 5 to 11. To buy tickets or for information, call the club at 330-253-0496 or Ed at 330-825-7607.
The dinner raises money for the building fund. Tickets also will be available at the door.

Talk on arts entrepreneurs
HUDSON: The Hudson Library & Historical Society will host an Arts Entrepreneurship Panel at 6:30 p.m., March 7, featuring Liz Maugans of Zygote Press, Nicole Mullet of ArtsNow, and Gabe Pollack of Bop Stop at the Music Settlement.
Panelists will discuss what creative, analytical and entrepreneurial skills are needed for success.

Auction of coins, silver
NEWARK: Ohio will hold an auction of items that were taken from about 1,000 abandoned bank safe-deposit boxes and turned over to the state.
The Columbus Dispatch reports that it will be the first such auction Ohio has held since 1998.
The two-day auction is set for Thursday and Friday at the Apple Tree Auction Center in Newark. Among the items up for bid are U.S. gold coins, silver dollars, foreign coins and currency and 38 100-ounce silver bars. The state has owned some of the items since 1968.
STARK COUNTY
Man dies in rollover crash
TUSCARAWAS TWP.: The Canton post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal one-vehicle crash that occurred around 12 a.m. Sunday.
Cody Mishler, 27, of Massillon was driving a gray pickup truck east on Wooster Street, east of Ben Fulton Avenue, when he lost control, the patrol reported. The truck traveled off the left side of the road, traveled back onto the road and overturned several times before coming to a stop in the road.
Mishler was ejected from the vehicle when it overturned. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor, the patrol reported. Mishler wasn’t wearing a seatbelt.
The crash remains under investigation.
WESTFIELD TOWNSHIP
Proposal for U.S. 224
WESTFIELD TWP.: The Ohio Department of Transportation will host a public open house next month to share plans and gather feedback about a proposed safety improvement project on U.S. Route 224.
The state agency is considering converting the two-way stop at Westfield Road and Route 224 to a restricted crossing U-turn design. The design would include closing the median at Westfield Road and providing median breaks on Route 224 for U-turns.
The project is tentatively planned to begin in 2019.
The open house is set for 5 to 7 p.m. March 14 at Westfield Township Hall, 6699 Buffham Road.
