Akron police arrested a man Tuesday night who is accused of shooting and killing a 31-year-old woman earlier Tuesday.
Duane M. Lucas, 29, of Akron faces murder charges in the death of Brittany Littlejohn of Akron following what police think was a domestic dispute at Littlejohn’s apartment.
A police department spokesman said Lucas was taken into custody without incident at about 9 p.m. in the 500 block of North Howard Street.
Police responded to a call around 10:40 a.m. Tuesday at the Woods apartments in the 2500 block of Romig Road for a report of an argument with shots fired.
They found Littlejohn on the outside patio with several shots in the abdomen. She was pronounced dead on the scene.
More than a dozen of Littlejohn’s family members and friends gathered outside the apartment Tuesday as investigators looked over the scene.
Jarrod Green, who lives in a different apartment building in the complex, said he talked to witnesses who claimed they heard Littlejohn calling for help right before she was shot.
Green and other neighbors said the complex is typically quiet.
“It was very surprising for something like this to happen,” Green said.
Lucas had fled the scene and was being sought by police.
