The Greater Akron Chamber said Thursday that longtime Summit County Executive Russ Pry, who died July 31 from health setbacks after cancer surgery, will be honored posthumously with the H. Peter Burg Award.
Last year’s awardee, retired FirstEnergy Corp. CEO and President Tony Alexander, will present the award March 16 at the John S. Knight Center during the Greater Akron Chamber’s 110th annual meeting.
Pry’s friend Phil Montgomery announced at Pry’s memorial service last year that Pry, thanks to his efforts to keep Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. and Bridgestone Americas in Akron, would be honored posthumously with the award.
The award, named for the late civic leader and chairman of Akron’s FirstEnergy Corp. H. Peter Burg, was created to recognize a leader who promotes economic development in the Greater Akron region. The Red Cross of Summit, Portage and Medina Counties also has an award named in honor of Burg.
Registrations for the chamber event can be made online at www.greaterakronchamber.org or by calling 330-237-1211 or via email to Chris Peters at peters@greaterakronchamber.org.
