DAYTON, Ohio: Public documents show a man accused of fatally shooting three people was hearing voices when he was at a behavioral health care facility the day of the Ohio shootings.
The Dayton Daily News reports a document filled out by police says 61-year-old Muhammad S. Ali damaged property and threatened staff “during a mental breakdown” at the Dayton facility Aug. 10 before police took him to a hospital for evaluation. Police say later that day, Ali took a gun to a Dayton home and killed 25-year-old Michael Cox, 53-year-old Tammy Cox and 74-year-old Jasper Taylor.
Ali is jailed on 28 charges, including aggravated murder counts. Defense attorney Michael Pentecost says he will look into Ali’s mental health history. Ali’s son told the newspaper his father is mentally ill and needed help.
