Councilman to hold meeting
AKRON: Summit County District 5 Councilman David Hamilton will host a “meet and greet” from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Buchtel Community Learning Center Library, 1040 Copley Road.
Hamilton will share his plans for the district and be available to answer questions and hear concerns from constituents.
District 5 includes parts of Akron, Copley Township, parts of Bath Township and the Fairlawn.

BATH TOWNSHIP
Lease for observatory OK’d
BATH TWP.: Trustees unanimously approved Monday a lease agreement with the Summit County Astronomy Club for an observatory near the Bath Community Garden in the Bath Nature Preserve at the Ira Road Trailhead.
The nonprofit group will pay $1 a year for the planned 16-x-24-foot prefabricated building that would include a roof that would roll back with the top portion of the south side of the building able to be folded down to make the skies more accessible for viewing.
The project is estimated to cost $50,000. The club is seeking grants and donations to fund it. The township would be responsible for insurance coverage, estimated by officials at less than $1,000 a year.
Construction may begin later this summer, township Administrator Vito Sinopoli said.
CLEVELAND
Fencing event continues
CLEVELAND: Fencers are taking over Cleveland this weekend.
The U.S. Fencing Association’s March North American Cup continues Saturday and Sunday at the Huntington Convention Center of Cleveland, 300 Lakeside Ave., featuring more than 1,600 athletes from around the country and Canada.
The competition, which began Friday, is free. The Greater Cleveland Sports Commission estimates that the event will provide $1.2 million in economic activity for Northeast Ohio.

STARK COUNTY
2 arrested on drug charges
CANTON: Stark County Sheriff George Maier says authorities found a large amount of crack cocaine, heroin, LSD, firearms and $4,000 in cash while executing a search warrant Thursday morning at a home at 611 Lawn Ave. SW.
The search, done by the Stark County Sheriff’s Office Metro Narcotics Unit with the assistance of Canton SWAT Cooperative, followed about a monthlong investigation by Metro agents.
Jack D. Wise, who lived at the address, was charged with trafficking heroin, possession of heroin, illegal possession of heroin, two counts of having weapons while under disability, trafficking cocaine, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana and possession of LSD.
Karen J. Hines of Louisville was charged with possession of cocaine.
Both are being held at the Stark County Jail.
TALLMADGE
Council elects two for fund
TALLMADGE: City Council members elected Councilwoman Carol Kilway as chairwoman and Councilman Craig Sisak as secretary of the 2017 Volunteer Firefighters’ Dependant Fund at their Thursday meeting.
They will join Tallmadge firefighters Chip Billow, Dave Gauer and John Tosko who were elected to serve on the fund by their peers.
In other business, it was noted that the city’s annual Easter Egg Hunt will be held at the Tallmadge Recreation Center at 10:30 a.m. April 15.
