Storm to hit Northeast
Sunny days and T-shirt-wearing temperatures made it appear winter had made an early exit. But it’s not finished with us yet — at least in the Northeast where a powerful storm with high winds and up to a foot of snow is expected this week. Forecasters at the National Weather Service said Saturday there’s a blizzard watch for coastal regions including New York City and Boston for Monday night into Tuesday. There also is a winter storm watch for a larger area that includes much of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, upstate New York and New England.

Man accused of sexting
An 18-year-old Louisiana man has been arrested for what authorities say were inappropriate text messages to a 14-year-old girl — including, “You better be worth risking going to jail.” The St. Landry Parish sheriff’s spokesman, Maj. Eddie Thibodeaux, said George Thomas Wiley III of Krotz Springs is free on $13,500 bond after his arrest last week on charges including computer-aided solicitation of a minor.

Hoverboard tied to fire
A fire that killed a toddler and critically injured two others, and also led to critical injuries to a responding fire official, appears to have been sparked by a recharging hoverboard, authorities said. Fire officials in Harrisburg said one victim jumped from a second-floor porch roof to escape the blaze, which was reported shortly before 8 p.m. Friday. Two other females were rescued by ladder from the ground, as was a man. Fire Lt. Dennis DeVoe, a 21-year veteran, was on his way to the station to pick up his gear before heading to the scene when his vehicle was hit in an intersection, authorities said. DeVoe was reported in critical condition.

Mother plans to file claim
The mother of a man who was shot by police after witnesses said he chased children with a broken bottle at a California sports field plans to file a wrongful death claim against the city of Huntington Beach, her lawyer said Saturday. Angela Hernandez, the mother of 29-year-old Steven Schiltz, doesn’t believe he went on a rampage in the city, attorney Michael Guisti said. Witnesses, however, said a bloody, shirtless man later identified as Schiltz followed an adult soccer player over a 3-foot barrier onto a soccer field and began chasing children with a broken wine bottle.
