A parade of big-name draft prospects is marching through Browns headquarters this week, and University of Miami tight end David Njoku will join it soon.
Njoku said Tuesday during an appearance on Pro Football Talk Live he'll fly to Cleveland on Thursday for a pre-draft visit with the Browns.
Njoku, a projected first-round pick, is widely considered the second-best tight end in this year's draft class. Alabama's O.J. Howard, who played for the Browns in the Senior Bowl, is the top-rated tight end.
The cupboard isn't bare for the Browns at tight end. Gary Barnidge represented them in the Pro Bowl after his breakout 2015 season. Seth DeValve and Randall Telfer are young, promising players.
But Browns coach Hue Jackson conceded last week during the NFL owners meetings the team needs more production from its tight ends than it got this past season.
"We need skilled playmakers in a lot of different places as we continue to move forward," Jackson said. "We need to improve some of the guys we have as well. That position needs to upgrade, whether we do that with the guys that are there and continue to get better or if there's somebody in the draft that can come in and help our football team.
"Just like everything we're doing, we're going to look at anything and everything. We have draft assets to do certain things to improve our team. We've got to use all those to the best of our ability."
Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson and Western Michigan wide receiver Corey Davis are among the prospects who reportedly visited the Browns on Tuesday. They're projected first-round picks, too.
