Snow skiers may want to throw down their winter caps in disgust, but Akron has once again experienced a winter where the measurable snowfall was well below normal.

The National Weather Service says 37.2 inches of snow fell this winter at the Akron-Canton Airport — well off the average of 46.9 inches.

Cleveland Hopkins Airport recorded just one-tenth of an inch more snow than Akron. But the airport there was 30.2 inches off of its normal snowfall amount.

This is the second year in a row Akron has had a relatively snow-free winter. Just 30.2 inches of snow fell last winter.

The weather service points out this was a warm winter too — the third most balmy in Akron since records were first established back in 1887.

A relatively warm week is ahead with the temperatures in the low 70s each day with some rain showers possible Wednesday into Thursday.

Things chill off Friday with the high expected to struggle to make it into the 50s and lows in the 40s.

Rain is possible Saturday and Sunday with highs in the upper 50s.

Craig Webb, who never used his snow blower this winter, can be reached at cwebb@thebeaconjournal.com or 330-996-3547.
