Shouts halt president’s trial in Brazil

A trial against Brazil’s president turns into a yelling match and is temporarily suspended after the head of Senate declares “stupidity is endless” and sharply criticizes a colleague who had questioned the body’s moral authority.

Obama gives marine life bigger safe zone

President Obama expands a national monument off the coast of Hawaii, creating a 582,578-square-mile safe zone for tuna, sea turtles and thousands of other species in what will be the world’s largest marine protected area. Obama’s proclamation quadruples in size the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument.

Retired Air Force general under investigation

The Air Force says a retired four-star general is under investigation for alleged sexual misconduct. An Air Force spokesman, Col. Patrick Ryder, says the general is Arthur J. Lichte. Ryder says it would be inappropriate for him to comment further, beyond saying the Air Force takes all allegations of sexual assault or harassment very seriously.

Calif. postal workers face federal charges

Federal prosecutors in Southern California charge dozens of postal workers and others with theft, fraud and other crimes — including a mail carrier who allegedly hoarded 48,000 pieces of mail. The U.S. attorney’s office announces it has charged 33 people.
