Trivia fans gathered for the third Magical Theatre Trivia Night Tuesday. Holly Barkdoll and Dennis O’Connell, co-producing directors, greeted 200 guests.
Looking over the silent auction of gift baskets were Linda Weigand, Kathy Miller, Dalia Spisak, Frank Soukeep, Steve Luc, Stacy and Tim Papp and their daughter, Whitney. Sandy Van Auken was assisted by Griffen Schwiger in selling raffle tickets.
Guests enjoyed pizza from Papa Roni’s and beverages served by Craig Raymaley. Dr. Lizabeth Powers and her daughter, Loucile, joined Dr. Bill and Amanda Lawhon for pizza, while Patty Keith pointed out where the trivia clues were available to purchase.
For the third year Tim Leopold of Sporcle Inc., came from Detroit to conduct the trivia contest. Leopold said he first met Barkdoll and O’Connell playing trivia in Canton.
Team names included “Swimsuit Models” and “Lady and the Champs.” “Harry Potter’s Evil Twins” — Tom Culliman, Ronrico Green, Tim Keo and Mark Ross — returned to defend their title.
Paula Chapman, Marilyn Maddox, Larry and Marilyn Chapman, and Terry Chapman called their team “No Names.” Maddox said, “We aren’t very good, but we come every year for this event because it’s so much fun.”
Excitement mounted as the games began. Neil Oblonsky and Jerry Nemeth, “The Beatles,” ended up taking third place. Grand prize winners were the “Lindor Slammers,” Jeff Minner, Linda Fortner, Geoffrey Darling and Jim and Elaine Fippin.
As desserts by Leach’s Meats & Sweets were served, auction winners were announced. Matt Meyer said he wore his “lucky” Cleveland Indians shirt and he had the winning bid for tickets, while Tracey Hershey won Dinner Out with Flair.
O’Connell expected the event would raise over $10,000 for Magical Theatre’s educational programming, and Barkdoll invited everyone to the next production, Junie B. Jones is NOT a Crook, which opens May 5.
