Getting to know ‘The King and I’ again

Marni Nixon, who died in July, was one of the great voices of movie musicals, although many people don’t know her name. In the days before Autotune, Nixon dubbed the singing of stars including Natalie Wood in West Side Story, Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady, and Deborah Kerr in The King and I, which is playing in theaters for its 60th anniversary. Watch Kerr, her enormous skirt and Yul Brynner whirl around the ballroom at 2 and 7 p.m. at theaters including Cinemark Portage Crossing, Cuyahoga Falls; Cinemark Macedonia 15; Montrose 12, Akron; Valley View 24; and Tinseltown USA, Jackson Township. See www.fathomevents.com for tickets.

Hitmaker Toto at Hard Rock Rocksino

Toto started life as a supergroup of session musicians who’d backed up the likes of Steely Dan, Seals and Crofts, Boz Scaggs and Sonny and Cher. Their hits included Rosanna, Africa and Hold the Line. The current incarnation of the band plays the Hard Rock Rocksino Northfield Park at 7:30 p.m.; tickets are $47.50-$65 at 800-745-3000, www.ticketmaster.com.

Celtic Thunder rumbling through Cleveland

PBS favorite Celtic Thunder brings its brand of Irish music to Playhouse Square’s State Theatre at 8 p.m. Tickets for the “Legacy Tour” are $10-$71 at 216-241-6000, www.playhousesquare.org.
