Many ways to mark 9/11 Patriot Day

It’s Patriot Day, and here are a few ways to mark the anniversary of 9/11:

• A 15th Anniversary Remembrance of 9/11 will be observed from 1 to 4 p.m. along South Main Street outside of Lock 3 Park in downtown Akron. The event will feature food and other activities and fire and emergency vehicles lining the street. A remembrance program will take place on the Lock 3 stage at 3 p.m.

• Wadsworth will hold its 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at noon, during the Wadsworth Props and Pistons Festival at Wadsworth Municipal Airport, 840 Airport Drive. Ravenna native Edward Paulus will be awarded a Purple Heart and several other military decorations. The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and features a car show, an air show, live music, fireworks and more. http://wadsworthairshow.wixsite.com/wpapf or 330-307-7677.

• People are encouraged to gather at 4 p.m. to form a “human peace symbol” at the Barber Airport in Alliance. Drones and planes will film the event, organized by author and peace advocate Dianna Aston. There will be a potluck, music and dancing afterward. http://diannahaston.com

Get a taste of the Mideast (and America too)

Got a hankering for some kibbe? St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, 3204 Ridgewood Road, Copley Township, will host its annual Middle Eastern & American Food Fair from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday. Music and children’s games are on the bill, and admission and parking are free. Call 330-666-7116.

Pianist plays classics at Five@Five

The Five@Five music series brings pianist Philip Thomson to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1250 W. Exchange St., Akron. The show is at 5 p.m. (of course). He’ll play selections by Bach, Schubert, Liszt and others. Freewill offering.

Break into song at Kent Stage

Community singalongs are a fun way to spend an evening, and some have even become viral video hits. Limber up your vocal cords for the All-Kent Community Sing-Along at 7 p.m. at the Kent Stage. It’s sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Church of Kent. Hal Walker, Joe Crookston and Saunis Parsons will lead the singing of familiar songs. Free will donation.
