Fatal bus crash at airport
A school bus driver was killed Sunday and several others were seriously injured after the bus veered off a roadway at Denver International Airport and crashed into a concrete pillar, police said. The female driver died at the scene, police spokesman John White said. The crash of the Adams 12 Five Star Schools district bus took place at 4:08 p.m., airport spokesman Heath Montgomery said. The driver circled back to the airport and crashed into the pillar after she picked up members of the Legacy High School football team, police said. An estimated 17 to 20 passengers were taken to nearby hospitals, authorities said. Two were in critical condition at Denver Health, KUSA TV station reported.

Officer shoots motorcyclist
A Washington police officer shot and killed a motorcyclist who rammed the passenger-side door of a police car after a traffic stop, police said Sunday. Police said in a news release that the motorcyclist intentionally drove into the passenger door as the officer was getting out of the passenger side of the police car early Sunday. Police identified the motorcyclist as Terrence Sterling, 31, of Fort Washington, Md.

Question leads to shooting
Police said a man asking if a bulletproof vest “still worked” was fatally shot by his cousin. A Tampa police report said Joaquin Mendez, 23, put on the vest late Saturday and “wondered aloud whether it still worked.” Police said his cousin, Alexandro Garibaldi, 24, pulled out a gun and responded, “Let’s see.” Officers found Mendez outside the house with a gunshot wound in his chest. Mendez died at a hospital. According to the report, Garibaldi initially told officers he found his wounded cousin after hearing a gunshot. However, police said a witness described Garibaldi shooting Mendez. Garibaldi was held Sunday without bond on a manslaughter charge.
