Tow truck crash kills three
The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a crash involving a tow truck that left three people dead and two others injured. WWL-TV reported the wreck happened Sunday just before 5 p.m. at a Mid-City intersection. Authorities say a tow truck was traveling southbound when it left the roadway and hit four pedestrians. Police say the tow truck then drove through a fence into the parking lot of a shopping center, where it hit several parked vehicles. Two of the pedestrians were pronounced dead at the scene. A third pedestrian died at a nearby hospital. The fourth pedestrian and the tow truck driver were taken by ambulance to an area hospital.

Electronic cigarette explodes
Police say a teenage girl riding a Universal Orlando amusement park ride suffered burns when an electronic cigarette belonging to another rider exploded and shot a fireball at her. Police told the Orlando Sentinel the 14-year-old from Tennessee was riding the Hogwarts Express train Saturday with her family when an e-cigarette belonging to a rider in another group blew up in his pocket and the fireball hit her in the face and elsewhere. Lt. Dan Brady said the explosion wasn’t big, but scared everyone on the train.

Funeral service scheduled
Services are scheduled for Keith Lamont Scott, the 43-year-old man who was shot and killed by Charlotte-Mecklenburg police. Murray’s Mortuary of North Charleston, S.C., posted the services on its website Sunday. A wake will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Folly Road Church of Christ on James Island. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church of James Island. His burial will be in St. James Memorial Gardens. Scott’s death led to two nights of violent protests, including unrest hours after the shooting Sept. 20 and more violence in downtown Charlotte the next night.

Vandals damage Trump hotel
Donald Trump’s new luxury hotel in downtown Washington has been vandalized. District of Columbia police say someone spray-painted the phrases “black lives matter” and “no justice no peace” on the front of the building on Saturday afternoon. On Sunday, the phrases were covered up with pieces of plywood. Police spokeswoman Aquita Brown said Sunday that police have not identified any suspects. The incident occurred just after 4 p.m. Saturday, and police are investigating.
