1 The students of St. Sebastian Parish School in Akron were recently able to show their excitement for the Cleveland Indians and give to others who have faced weather-related losses. The students could wear their favorite Cleveland Indians attire or wear the Indians team colors for a small donation to the HALO Foundation. The organization’s mission is to offer hope to the afflicted through the generosity of others. The students brought in more than $375 that will be donated to recent flood victims in Louisiana that are now homeless.
2 The Canton-based International Association of Information Technology Asset Managers recently presented a check to Lake Township Police Officer Donald Worthy for the purchase of a K-9 Officer’s life-saving bulletproof vest. IAITAM’s efforts will ensure Worthy’s canine — K-9 Officer Bill — has the proper safety equipment to lessen the possibility of injury or death in the line of duty.
3 Taunya Stevens-Johnson of Barberton has received the Hattie M. Strong Foundation Scholarship and the Dr. Sunday Ajose Memorial Scholarship at East Carolina University’s College of Education.
4 Last week, NewsChannel5 surprised Jenifer “Jen” Smith, one of Summit Education Service Center’s (ESC) preschool teachers, with the Teacher of the Week award. Smith has been with Summit ESC for 10 years. She currently teaches preschool at Stow-Munroe Falls’ Indian Trail Elementary School.

Or email SilentAngelsGroup@gmail.com. The anonymous Silent Angels group helps people who have fallen on bad times through no fault of their own. Here are just a few of the things the Silent Angels have done so far this year to help people in the community: Assisted a young man on disability who needed help with his rent and electric bill, provided a hospital bed to a women who was sleeping on an air mattress after her ninth surgery, helped a woman who needed rails for her hospital bed to prevent a fall, delivered two truckloads of medical equipment to a nonprofit, formed a partnership with Haven of Rest to provide furniture to their clients and worked with Coleman Services to help a young expectant mother who moved into her first apartment.
