Here’s a look at Jeffery Conrad’s pending legal matters outside of Summit County.

Albany, N.Y.: Conrad confessed in 2014 to the February 1997 shooting death of an Albany college student.

He has not yet been charged.

“The investigation is still open and pending,” said Cecilia Walsh, a spokeswoman for the Albany County District Attorney’s Office.

When Conrad confessed to the Albany murder, he was already in jail for the stabbing death of Amanda Russell, his ex-girlfriend, in Cuyahoga Falls.

Carl Dukes and Lavelle Jones, who were convicted of the Albany murder and spent nearly two decades behind bars, were released from prison in July because of Conrad’s confession. They were serving life sentences for the murder of Erik Mitchell in his Albany apartment.

In a videotaped interview with an Albany detective in September 2014, Conrad said Dukes and Jones had nothing to do with Mitchell’s slaying. He went into detail about how he shot and killed Mitchell and then used a hacksaw to destroy the murder weapon, according to a video that accompanied a recent Times Union story.

Conrad told the detective he wasn’t confessing to ease his conscience, but to set the record straight. He said he has been on the run for nearly 20 years.

“I am never getting out,” he said.

Conrad, however, also bragged that, “I could have gotten away with this murder.”

Cuyahoga County: Conrad was indicted in 2015 for the 2006 rape and kidnapping of a Cleveland woman.

His DNA, on file for Russell’s murder, was a match for the woman’s rape kit under a state effort to test sexual assault kits.

Conrad is accused of holding the woman, now 41, against her will for several days in abandoned homes and raping and assaulting her. The woman was homeless at the time and had just gotten out of a shelter, said Kathleen Caffrey, a spokeswoman for the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office.

Conrad is charged with attempted murder, three counts of rape and two counts of kidnapping.
