A 17-year-old senior from Chagrin Falls High School was killed and three others were taken to Akron-area hospitals following a crash on North Portage Path on Friday evening.
Akron investigators are still analyzing what happened, but police Saturday released what they know so far:
About 7:35 p.m. Friday, a Chagrin Falls man was driving an Audi south on North Portage Path and tried to turn left onto Sunnyside Drive when his car was hit by a Jeep SUV traveling north on North Portage Path.
The Jeep, driven by an Akron man, struck the Audi on the right rear passenger door. After the collision, the Audi left the road and hit a utility pole.
Grant Wilson, the 17-year-old high school student, was sitting in the back seat of the Audi and was killed.
It was unclear what injuries were sustained by the driver of the Audi and his 15-year-old daughter, who was the front-seat passenger.
It was also unclear how seriously the driver of the Jeep, who lives on Karen Drive, was injured.
No other details — including how fast the cars were traveling or who may have been to blame — were released.
Chagrin Falls Exempted Village Schools notified parents of Wilson’s death Saturday, expressing sadness over the loss and sympathy toward those affected.
“Always positive, courteous and friendly with a great sense of humor, [Wilson] was a talented artist and will be deeply missed by his friends, teachers, staff and the entire Chagrin community,” the school statement said.
