A 38-year-old North Ridgeville man was arrested and charged with stealing Social Security disability payments from a 51-year-old developmentally disabled woman in Summit County.
The Summit County Sheriff’s Office said Scott R. Creek, 38, was arrested Friday and charged with theft from an individual with developmental disabilities. He was taken to the Summit County Jail.
The arrest came after the Summit County Developmental Disabilities Board told the sheriff’s office that a 51-year-old woman with developmental disabilities was not receiving her Social Security benefits.
The sheriff’s office said the agency alleges the 51-year-old woman’s money, starting in August 2015, was being paid to a person who then used the funds for “his own personal gain.” Total amount was about $8,300.
The sheriff’s office said its investigation showed Creek had been withdrawing funds from the woman’s bank account and depositing the funds into his own account.
