Dr. Thomas Malone, following weeks of tumult at Summa Health, today resigned.
The board of directors today notified Summa staff in a memo, thanking Malone “for the tremendous growth and success that Summa Health has achieved during his tenure.”
But, the board acknowledged in the memo, Malone’s leadership “was distracting the forward progress of the organization.”
Malone will continue to serve as CEO for up to 60 days while the board conducts a search for his successor, the board said.
The board will be looking for someone who can carry on Summa’s vision for population health, improving the health and wellness of our community while transforming the culture of our organization, the board said.
“We deeply appreciate that Tom made this difficult decision because he believes it is the right step forward for Summa Health, our employees, our physicians and the patients we serve,” the board told Summa staff.
