Two men were arrested in the fatal shooting of a man Wednesday night outside a residence in Akron’s Summit Lake neighborhood.
Theo King, 29, of Canton, and Donqus McSwain, 23, of Akron, are charged with murder and felonious assault in the death of Richard McCoy, 28, of Akron.
King was arrested by the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force in Barberton, where he was staying with his girlfriend in the 700 block of North Way Street, authorities said. Akron police arrested McSwain on Thursday as well.
Police reported that after he was shot, McCoy got into his vehicle and attempted to flee. He crashed into a utility pole in the 100 block of West Long Street and was transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General, where he died shortly before 9 p.m.
The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled McCoy died of gunshot wounds to the torso.
“The task force reacted swiftly to get this dangerous fugitive off the streets,” U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott said of King in a prepared statement. “The quick response helped locate this man before he could hurt anyone else.”
King and McSwain are scheduled to make their first appearances in Akron Municipal Court on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, according to court records.
They are being held at the Summit County Jail.
