AKRON

Man shot near UA campus

AKRON: The University of Akron issued a public safety advisory asking for information related to a shooting reported about 1:15 p.m. Monday off campus on South Adolph Street, east of state Route 8 near Summa Akron City Hospital.

The 26-year-old-victim, who is not a student, reported that he was shot in the foot by a man. The suspect reportedly ran west through backyards.

Police said the victim was unable to provide a description of the person who shot him. The victim is being treated for nonlife-threatening injuries at City Hospital.

Break-ins at various stores

AKRON: Police reported several smash-and-grab business break-ins over the weekend.

Early Saturday morning, a man threw a cinder block through the front window of Family Dollar, 1031 Kenmore Blvd. The man entered the store and stole several types of speakers and miscellaneous clothing items.

Also on Saturday morning, two men used a brick to break the front door glass of Catherine’s Clothing Store, 1311 E. Tallmadge Ave. They stole an unreported amount of clothing.

Then about 4 a.m. on Sunday, three men threw a cinder block through the front door glass of the Leprechaun Liquor Store, 2707 Manchester Road. The men entered the store and removed over $1,000 worth of cigarettes and cigars, then fled in a gray Pontiac Bonneville.

Black history program

AKRON: The 20th annual Buchtel Community Learning Center PTA Black History Program and Taste of Culture will be held March 4 at the school on Copley Road.

The history portion of the program will be free and will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. It will feature the Buchtel Drama Club, Jazz Band and community poets and vendors. It will be immediately followed by a Taste of Culture that will cost $8, $5 for students, free for children 5 and under. Arts entrepreneurship panel

HUDSON: The Hudson Library & Historical Society will host an Arts Entrepreneurship Panel at 6:30 p.m. March 7 featuring Liz Maugans of Zygote Press, Nicole Mullet of ArtsNow and Gabe Pollack of Bop Stop @ The Music Settlement.

Panelists will share their experiences and discuss what creative, analytical and entrepreneurial skills are needed for success.

Anti-pollution strategies

AKRON: Healthy septic systems and pet waste practices will be the topics at a March 21 Summit County Public Health and Summit Soil and Water Conservation District workshop.

The program will target anti-pollution strategies including septic tank maintenance, the best ways to dispose of pet waste and how choices affect the health of the watershed and Lake Erie.

The free event runs 9 a.m. to noon at Summit County Public Health auditorium, 1867 W. Market St.

Roegner hosts office hours

TWINSBURG: State Rep. Kristina Roegner (R-Hudson) will hold office hours from noon to 1:30 p.m. March 2 in the Bissell Historical Room at the Twinsburg Public Library, 10050 Ravenna Road.
