Traffic disruptions — Sept. 1

Here is a list of road and lane closings in the Akron area:

Major highways abruptly closed: None.

AKRON:

• East Voris Street, between South Broadway and Sweitzer Avenue: Closed from 7 p.m. Wednesday until 5 a.m. Thursday for demolition of the building at 841 S. Broadway. Westbound traffic will detour using Sweitzer, East South Street and South Broadway and eastbound traffic will detour using East Thornton Street and Wolf Ledges Parkway. The right three lanes on Broadway will also be closed. The left lane will remain open to traffic.

• Interstate 76 lane restrictions and ramp closings: Until late November, I-76 between Grant Street and Inman Street will be reduced to two lanes in each direction; the I-76 eastbound entrance ramp from Grant Street is closed. Detour is Thornton Street to South Main Street; the ramp from I-77 northbound to I-76 westbound will be closed. Detour will be I-277 westbound to I-76/Kenmore leg eastbound; and the ramp from state Route 8 southbound to I-77 northbound/I-76 westbound will be closed. Detour will be I-77 southbound to I-277 westbound to I-76/Kenmore leg eastbound. The ramp from I-76 eastbound to I-77 southbound will be closed for bridge removal. Detour will be I-76/Kenmore leg westbound to I-277 eastbound to I-77 southbound.

• West Emerling Avenue, between South Main Street and Firestone Parkway: Closed to traffic until late November for a full improvement project. A detour is posted.

• Hillsdale Avenue, between Barwell Street and Kathleen Street: Closed until mid-October for a sewer reconstruction project. Detour via Woodrow Street, Doris Avenue and Aqueduct Street.

• North Forge Street, between North Adams Street and North Arlington Street: Westbound lane closing for a bypass pumping project until Friday. A detour will be posted. Eastbound traffic will be maintained.

• Brown Street, under I-76/I-77: Occasional lane closings for bridge construction. Planned detour will use East Thornton Street, Grant Street, Morgan Avenue and Brown Street.

• Brown Street, between Johnston Street and South Street: Closed until further notice for deck removal on the structure over Brown Street. When work is not being performed, barricades will be removed and the road will be reopened to traffic. Planned detour will use East Thornton Street, Grant Street, Morgan Avenue and Brown Street.

• West State Street, West Center Street and Ash Street, on the south side of Dart Avenue: Closed until late September as part of the Oak Park Renewal project. A detour is posted.

• West Exchange Street, between South Portage Path and South Maple Street: Right lane closings until early September for installation of gas mains. Flaggers will assist traffic through the work zones.

• East Exchange Street, between South Arlington Street to Black Street: Lane restrictions for installation of a water main in the right westbound lane. It is expected to be completed by Sept. 9. Traffic will be maintained in both directions and shifted as work progresses. All lanes will be open after work hours. Emergency vehicles will have complete access at all times.

• River Street, between East Exchange Street and South Case Avenue: Closed until about late January for building demolition work. A detour is posted.

• Market Street downtown exit ramp off state Route 59 East: Closed until the end of the year because of construction work starting along Dart Avenue, in preparation for removal of Route 59 between West Exchange Street and West Market Street starting in February.

• Merriman Road, between Memorial Parkway and Kingswood Drive: Closed for a gas main replacement and sewer separation project. Detour via Memorial Parkway and North Portage Path. It is expected to be closed until December.

• Wills Avenue, between Rand Avenue and Locust Street: Closed until mid-September for full improvement work to prepare for removal of Route 59. A detour will be posted. Emergency vehicles will have complete access at all times.

• Bank Street bridge, between North Case Avenue and Williams Street: Closed until the end of September for a bridge replacement. A detour will be posted. Local traffic should use Kent Street and Williams Street to avoid construction.

• Eaton Avenue, between Newport and Merriman roads: Closed for several months for water main work. A detour is posted. Emergency vehicles have complete access at all times.

• Rand Avenue and Dart Avenue, between West Exchange Street and West Market Street: Work has begun on the right lanes of both streets until further notice. Once the right lanes are completed, work will be begin on the left lanes in preparation for the removal of state Route 59 between West Exchange and West Market which is planned for early in 2017. Traffic will be maintained.

• West Waterloo Road, between Eagon Street and 30th Street Southwest: Closed for sewer reconstruction until late September. A detour is posted. Emergency vehicles will have access at all times.

• Riverview Road, between Smith Road and Bath Road: Closed until further notice to rehabilitate a portion of the Main Outfall Sewer. There will also be lane restrictions from Lock 22 Plaza on Merriman to Smith Road. Detours are posted.

• East Wilbeth Road, between Brown Street and I-77: Closed for construction until late October. A detour will be posted. Local residents and emergency vehicles will have access on East Wilbeth between South Main Street and Brown Street.

• Glendale Avenue, from Rand Avenue to the intersection of Locust Street: Closed until late 2018 for work on the combined sewer overflows project at the Ohio Canal Interceptor Tunnel. Detours will be posted. The right lane of West Mill Street, west of Dart Avenue, and the south 150 feet of Bates Street will also be closed. Detours will be posted.

• East Market Street, between Cook Street and Willard Street: Lane restrictions for sanitary sewer repairs and water main construction until mid-September. Work includes reconstruction of walks, lighting, crosswalks and resurfacing. Lane configurations will be changed as work progresses.

• Seiberling Street, between Innovation Way/Seiberling Street roundabout and Archwood Avenue: The road has been reopened to through traffic in both directions, but it will be shifted to the west side of the street until reconstruction of sanitary sewers is completed in early November.

• Dan Street, between East North Street and Evans Avenue: The road is closed for sanitary and storm sewer construction until November.

• Hickory Street, between North Street and Memorial Parkway: Closed until late 2018 to prepare for work on the Ohio Canal Interceptor Tunnel. It includes the temporary relocation of the Towpath Trail to Hickory Street from Maple Street to near Memorial Parkway.

Other road construction:

Elsewhere in Summit County:

• Lane restrictions for crack sealing on various roads: There will be daily lane restrictions through late August for crack sealing in the following locations: state Route 93 north of state Route 619; U.S. 224 between state Route 241 and the Portage County line, state Route 162 between state Route 21 and western Akron limits; and state Route 532 in Mogadore.

• I-76, between the Medina County line and Central Avenue in Norton and Barberton: Nightly lane restrictions through April for pavement repairs.

• I-77 south, between state Route 241 and Killian Road in Green and Coventry Township: Lane restrictions in both directions until further notice from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly for resurfacing.

• I-77, from Everett Road to just north of state Route 303 in Richfield: Through Friday morning, there will be lane restrictions from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly.

• I-77, between Ridgewood Road and the Cuyahoga County line in Fairlawn, Copley and Bath townships and Richfield: There will be nightly lane restrictions for crack sealing from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly until further notice.

• North Van Buren Avenue and Fairview Avenue in Barberton: Until further notice, there will be daily lane restrictions for resurfacing on North Van Buren Avenue between Robinson Avenue and Fairview Avenue, and on Fairview Avenue between Norton Avenue and state Route 619.

• Cleveland-Massillon Road, between Greenridge Road and Pleasant Drive in Norton: There will be lane restrictions through late September for placement of temporary pavement.

• State Route 8, between Graham Road and state Route 303 in Cuyahoga Falls, Stow and Hudson: Route 8 will be reduced to one lane in each direction nightly for pavement repairs from 7 p.m. to 6 am. until further notice.

• State Route 18/Medina Road in Bath and Copley townships: Daily lane restrictions between Hametown Road and Medina Line Road for road construction. Occasional lane restrictions between I-77 and Hametown Road for road widening until further notice.

• State Route 91 (North Avenue) southbound, between Howe Road and the Tallmadge Circle: Closed through mid-December for road widening. Detour is Howe Road to state Route 261 (Northeast Avenue).

• State Route 91, between Post Road and Glenwood Drive in Twinsburg: Daily lane restrictions for drainage installation and widening of the northbound side of state Route 91 until further notice. The project also includes drainage repairs and installation of a roundabout on Route 91 and Glenwood Drive.

• Glenwood Drive, on the west side of state Route 91 in Twinsburg: Closed through mid-September for road construction. Detour will be Route 91 to OFC Joshua Miktarian Memorial Parkway to Ravenna Road.

• State Route 303, from I-271 to just west of Olde 8 Road in Boston Heights and Peninsula: There will be daily lane restrictions for resurfacing through early September.

• State Route 303, just west of Olde 8 Road in Boston Heights: Reduced to one lane maintained by a traffic signal until early September for bridge rehabilitation. During this time, traffic exiting the Metro Parks trailhead onto Route 303 and on Olde 8 Road at the intersection with Route 303 will not be permitted to make right turns.

• I-271 northbound, between I-80/Ohio Turnpike and Riverview Road in Boston Township: Nightly lane restrictions through early September for crack sealing from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

• I-271 ramp closings in Richfield and Richfield Township: Through early September, the I-271 southbound ramp to state Route 303 will be closed. Detour will be I-271 southbound to I-77 southbound to Wheatley Road to Brecksville Road to Route 303; and the Route 303 ramp to I-271 southbound will be closed. Detour will be Route 303 to Brecksville Road to I-271 southbound.

• I-271 in Richfield and Richfield Township: There is a bidirectional traffic pattern on I-271 northbound from just north of the Medina County line to the Ohio Turnpike. Although two lanes of traffic will be maintained in each direction on I-271 southbound, traffic will be split with one lane of southbound traffic crossed over onto I-271 northbound while the second lane remains on the I-271 southbound side.

• I-271, between state Route 8 and the Cuyahoga County line in Macedonia: Lane restrictions for road widening until further notice. Speed limit in this area is reduced to 50 mph during construction.

• I-271 southbound, one mile south of state Route 8 in Northfield Center Township: Reduced to two 10-foot lanes for slope repair until further notice.

• State Route 82, between state Route 8 and South Bedford Road in Macedonia: There will be nightly lane restrictions for road widening until further notice.

• State Route 82, between Alexandria Drive and Longwood Park in Macedonia: Reduced to one 10-foot lane in each direction for road widening until further notice.

• Shephard Road, on the north side of state Route 82 in Macedonia: Closed through early September for road reconstruction. Detour will be state Route 82 to North Bedford Road to Ledge Road.

MEDINA COUNTY:

• I-71, between I-76 and state Route 18: Nightly lane closings for a preventive maintenance project. The speed limit is 55 miles per hour when workers/work zones are present. It is expected to be completed in October.

• I-71 southbound exit ramp and state Route 303: The ramp and Route 303 just west of the I-71 interchange will have lane restrictions for a widening project until September. The slip ramp from I-71 to Route 303 westbound will be closed. However, two 10-foot lanes of traffic will be maintained at the traffic signal while the slip ramp is closed. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained on Route 303 in each direction elsewhere along the project corridor.

• I-71, just south of the Wayne County line to just south of I-76: Nightly lane closings for a preventive maintenance project. It is expected to completed in October.

• I-76, at its interchange with state Route 94 (High Street) in Wadsworth: Intermittent single-lane closings on Route 94 (High Street) as part of the Route 94 corridor improvement project. I-76 currently has the inside and outside shoulders closed. Off-peak lane closings are possible. Route 94 will be reduced to one lane of through traffic in each direction with a center left-turn lane to complete widening along the project corridor. Work will continue through October. Delays should be expected and motorists should use an alternate route when possible.

• U.S. 224, from Lake Road east to I-76: Intermittent lane closings for pavement repairs until October.

• U.S. 224 eastbound exit ramp to I-71: Closed until Friday for pavement repairs. A detour will be posted.

• U.S. 42 (Pearl Road)/Fenn Road improvement project: Intermittent lane restrictions at the intersection of Fenn Road for striping and project finalization work through October. Delays should be expected. Seek alternate routes when possible.

• State Route 18, from Boneta Road to just west of the Summit County line: Nightly lane closings for pavement repairs. One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction with flaggers. The project is expected to be complete in October.

• State Route 162 lane closings: Route 162, from U.S. 42 to state Route 94 (excluding state Route 3 overlap) and from Route 94 to the Summit County line, will have daily intermittent lane closings for a preventive maintenance project. One lane of traffic will be maintained with flaggers. It is expected to continue until October.

• Old Mill Road, between Spencer Road and River Corners Road in Spencer Township: Closed until early October for a bridge replacement.

• Zimmerman Road, at its intersection with U.S. 224: Closed until Friday for culvert repairs. A detour will be posted.

PORTAGE COUNTY:

• I-76, between New Milford Road and Rock Springs Road in Edinburg and Rootstown townships: There are nightly lane restrictions in both directions from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m. for resurfacing until further notice.

• State routes 43 and 82 in Aurora: Route 82 between Route 43 and the Summit County line will have daily lane restrictions for resurfacing and striping until further notice. Route 43 between the southern Aurora limits and Route 82 and Route 43 between Treat Road and the Geauga County line will have daily lane restrictions for resurfacing until further notice.

• State Route 43, over I-80/Ohio Turnpike in Streetsboro: Lane restrictions from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily for bridge repairs through late August.

• State Route 14 in Streetsboro: Reduced to one lane with traffic maintained by flaggers until mid-September for placement of a retaining wall nightly from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

• State routes 14 and 59 in Ravenna Township: Route 59 between state Route 5 and Route 14 has daily lane restrictions for pavement striping until further notice.

• State routes 82 and 305 in Hiram: Until further notice, Route 82 just south of Route 305 and Route 305 just west of the Route 82/state Route 700 intersection will have occasional lane restrictions for sidewalk installation.

• Norton Road, between state Route 700 and state Route 88 in Hiram Township: Closed through late September for a bridge replacement. A detour is posted.

STARK COUNTY:

• U.S. 30 in Canton and Canton Township: Between Route 297/Raff Road and state Route 43/Waynesburg Road, there will be lane restrictions for pavement repairs and resurfacing until further notice.

• U.S. 30 in Canton and Osnaburg townships and East Canton: U.S. 30 between Trump Avenue and the eastern East Canton limits will have lane restrictions for pavement repairs and resurfacing until further notice.

• U.S. 62, between Kings Highway and state Route 93 in Sugar Creek Township: Closed until mid-November for two bridge deck replacements. Detour will be Route 93 to state Route 212 to state Route 21.

• State Route 93 in Canal Fulton: Closed at Locust Street through late November for intersection reconstruction. Detour will be state Route 236 to state Route 21.

• State Route 93, between Sarbaugh Street and state Route 241 in Tuscarawas Township: Closed through Friday for a culvert replacement. Detour will be state Route 21 to state Route 212 to U.S. 250.

• State Route 800, between 34th Street and 45th Street in Canton Township: Reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction for road widening until further notice.

• State Route 153, between Paris Avenue and state Route 183 in Washington Township: Daily lane restrictions for resurfacing until further notice.

• Freed Street, between Baird Avenue and Fox Avenue in Paris Township: Closed through mid-September for a bridge replacement. Detour will be Baird Avenue to state Route 172 to Fox Avenue.

WAYNE COUNTY:

• State Route 21, between the Stark County line and the Summit County line: Intermittent lane closings for a spot pavement repair project until further notice. One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction at all times.

• U.S. 30, just east of Kidron Road: Intermittent daytime lane closings reducing eastbound traffic to one lane for work on bridge until September.

• State Route 302, from Wooster to the Ashland County line: Reduced to one lane of traffic for a chip seal project until later in August. One lane of traffic will be maintained by flaggers.

• State Route 604, one-half mile west of Camp Road: Closed for bridge repairs until late September. A detour is posted.

Elsewhere in Northeast Ohio:

• I-77 bridge over Cuyahoga River Valley, Independence and Cuyahoga Heights in Cuyahoga County: Painting of the structural steel on the bridge is underway. Work will take place seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. with minimal impacts to traffic. Through late August, there will be off-peak lane closings between Rockside Road and state Route 21. Times will be adjusted to avoid impacts to downtown Cleveland events.

• I-71 in Strongsville and Middleburg Heights: Lane restrictions for resurfacing.

• I-71 culvert repairs in Strongsville: Work has begun to repair a culvert along I-71 north of state Route 82 (Royalton Road). It will take place on the shoulder and traffic will be maintained until further notice.
