Town hall meeting Tuesday
AKRON: Ward 10 City Councilman Zack Milkovich will hold a town hall meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Goodyear Branch Library, 60 Goodyear Blvd.
Representatives from various city departments will attend to address constituent questions and concerns.
Neal sets Ward 4 meeting
AKRON: City Councilman Russ Neal will host his Ward 4 meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Lawton Street Community Center, 1225 Lawton St.
New Buchtel High School Principal Byron Hopkins will talk about his vision for the school.
School board President Bruce Alexander and Vice President Patrick Bravo, as well as other members from the school board, also will share future plans for Akron public schools and how they may impact Buchtel.

Valle to hold office hours
AKRON: City Director of Neighborhood Assistance John Valle will host office hours from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Mason Park Community Center, 700 E. Exchange St, and from 1 to 2 p.m. Sept. 20 at Summit Lake Community Center, 380 W. Crosier St.

Man, 65, charged in rape
AKRON: A 65-year old Akron man has been arrested and charged with raping an 85-year-old acquaintance.
The Summit County Sheriff’s Office this morning said William M. Clark was arrested Tuesday and charged with two counts of rape.
In July, an 85-year-old woman notified the sheriff’s office that she had been sexually assaulted by an acquaintance. An investigation was initiated by the detective assigned to Adult Protective Services.
It was alleged that the suspect forcibly penetrated the victim during an encounter in mid-July.
The woman subsequently sought medical attention.
She suffered several injuries, including a broken pelvic floor and torn ligaments in her hip, according to law officials.
Clark has been booked into the Summit County Jail, the sheriff’s office said.
Recovery Walk on Sept. 10
AKRON: As part of Summit County’s observance of National Recovery Month, the free 5K Recovery Walk will kick off at noon Sept. 10 at Oriana Day Reporting, 750 W. Market St.
The walk will highlight advocacy efforts and services available for those recovering from substance abuse.

Bill OKs hot vehicle rescue
State Sen. Frank LaRose, R-Hudson, reminded Ohioans that Wednesday marked the effective date for a bill that grants civil immunity to Ohioans who break into a locked vehicle to save a child or pet from extreme heat.
Senate Bill 215 specifies that the rescuer must contact 911 prior to forcibly entering the vehicle and that no other reasonable method for the child or animal to escape may exist.
“Even as a new school year begins, the heat is showing no signs of letting up,” LaRose said. “It’s important that we make concerned bystanders aware that they can do whatever it takes to save a child or pet in danger without fearing legal repercussions.”
According to national child safety advocate Kids and Cars, 600 children have died inside excessively hot vehicles since 1990.
