SINKING SPRING, Pa.

Family of five found dead

A couple featured in news stories about their difficulties getting medication for a daughter who had a heart transplant were found shot to death in their home along with their three children in an apparent murder-suicide, authorities said. District Attorney John Adams said a handwritten note that “appeared to be a ‘murder-suicide’ note” was found in the family’s Sinking Spring home Saturday afternoon. Police said they found all five dead of gunshot wounds and a handgun near one of the adults, but they didn’t say which one or say who they believe was the shooter.

ORLANDO, Fla.

Wall going up at Disney

Workers are building a stone wall around a Walt Disney World lake where an alligator killed a toddler earlier this summer. Disney officials told the Orlando Sentinel that the barrier wall is part of the new security plan following the death of 2-year-old Lane Graves of Omaha, Neb. The boulder wall is going up along the beaches of the Seven Seas Lagoon where several resorts are located. Disney also put up warning signs and ropes after Graves was dragged by an alligator into the lake on June 14.

The son of a Kansas state lawmaker died Sunday on a water slide that is billed as the world’s largest, according to officials and the boy’s family. Authorities did not immediately identify the boy who died at Schlitterbahn Waterpark, in Kansas City, Kan., but Kansas state Rep. Scott Schwab and his wife released a statement saying it was their son Caleb Thomas Schwab, 10.

PHILADELPHIA

Transit police help tourist

Transit police in Philadelphia helped a Colombian tourist and her children retrieve their lost passports by giving the thief a deal: no consequences for returning the bag. The Philadelphia Inquirer reports Ximena Estrada forgot the bag on a Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority bus on Thursday. She had been visiting family since June and was scheduled to return to Pereira, Colombia, on Tuesday. Transit officials say a fellow rider walked away with the bag. They released surveillance footage and used social media and local news outlets to spread the word that they wouldn’t charge the man if he just returned the bag. The man turned it in early Sunday.
