Akron police investigate 6 weekend shootings; 3 with injuries and 3 without

Akron police are investigating six shootings from over the weekend, three with injuries and three without.

The three incidents with no injuries involved shots fired into homes. Officers don’t think they are related, according to the department’s daily report.

The first happened about 10 p.m. Friday in the 200 block of East Archwood Avenue. A resident reported shots were fired at her house by four suspects dressed in black clothing with sweatshirt hoods covering their faces. The suspects fled on foot northbound on Bellow Street.

The second happened about 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the 300 block of Lindenwood Avenue. A resident reported he was standing in the front yard when a dark-colored SUV drove by and fired shots toward him. The suspect then fled around the corner.

The third shooting was about 3 p.m. Sunday in the 800 block of Raymond Street. The resident reported hearing glass breaking. He said he went toward his kitchen and saw a bullet lying on his table.

The three shootings with injuries don’t appear to be life-threatening, police said.

The first was about 6 a.m. Saturday in the 1700 block of Goodyear Boulevard. Officers, en route to a fight call, learned shots had been fired. While officers were on scene, Akron City Hospital called and said the hospital had a 20-year-old male with a gunshot wound to his head. The man’s brother brought him to the hospital.

No description of the suspect was available.

The second shooting happened around 10:30 p.m. Saturday in the 1100 block of Herman Street. The victim, a 27-year-old Akron man, was shot in the back of the head. He was transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center. The man’s vehicle was found to have several bullet holes.

No suspect information was given to officers at the time of the initial investigation.

The third shooting also was about 10:30 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of Fuller Street and Joy Avenue. The victim, a 35-year-old Akron man, was found hobbling down the street with a gunshot wound to his ankle and hand. He told police he was shot walking down the road. He was transported to Akron City Hospital.

The victim could not give a description of the suspects.
